Residents of Lax Kw’alaams, located off the northwestern coast of B.C., now have reliable high-speed internet, providing improved access to online services and opportunities.
Thanks to new last-mile infrastructure, around 340 households in the community are now connected to high-speed internet.
This project, built and operated by CityWest, utilizes the capacity of the Connected Coast network. As of January 2025, roughly 74% of rural homes and over 80% of homes on First Nations reserves across the province have access to high-speed internet.
Back in March 2022, the federal and provincial governments announced a joint investment of up to $830 million to expand high-speed internet services.
The B.C. government has also committed to ensuring every First Nations community is connected as part of its Declaration Act Action Plan.
