The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) and the Metlakatla Development Corporation (MDC) are teaming up to develop the South Kaien Import Logistics Park (SKILP), a $100 million Indigenous-led venture that will boost the region’s trade capabilities and create jobs for local Indigenous workers. Located near the Port of Prince Rupert, the project will provide 56 acres of industrial land for logistics and warehousing, expanding import transloading and related services.
IntermodeX, a leading intermodal services company, will be the park’s anchor tenant, developing a 33-acre logistics facility set to begin operations in 2027. The project is expected to significantly enhance supply chain efficiency by supporting both import and export logistics at the port.
The Canada Infrastructure Bank is providing $60.7 million in financing through its Indigenous Community Infrastructure Initiative, while the National Trade Corridors Fund has committed $43.3 million. This investment will not only strengthen trade but also offer long-term economic opportunities for the Metlakatla First Nation and surrounding communities. The development is the first step in a broader plan to grow the region and provide economic benefits for future generations.
