Northern Health has hired 877 new staff members across Northern BC to help address staffing shortages and increasing demand. This includes 254 registered nurses, 124 of whom are new graduates from across BC. Additionally, 176 new staff members, including psychiatric nurses, have been added through the Employed Student Nurse Program. Northern Health highlights the benefits of hiring new grads, such as skill consolidation and improved workforce stability. The organization also recruited through various programs, such as the International Educated Health Care Professional Program, which added 22 new workers. The province’s Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive (RRRI), offering $30,000 for a two-year commitment, has brought 209 new hires to Northern Health. These efforts are aimed at improving patient care and easing the strain caused by unfilled positions and increased workplace demand in recent years.
