The renovation of the former Burns Lake Motor Inn into the Dzee Inzu Yikh supportive housing facility has been completed. BC Housing purchased the property in 2021 with a $14.9 million investment from the Building BC: Supportive Housing Fund to provide 44 homes for people at risk of homelessness in Burns Lake and surrounding First Nations communities.
With construction finished and an occupancy permit issued, the shelter is now open. Five residents have already moved in, with more expected soon. BC Housing is taking a gradual approach to the shelter’s opening to ensure a smoother transition for residents and complete the remaining renovations.
Operated by the Lake Babine Nation, the facility offers suites with kitchenettes, and staff will connect residents with various support services such as employment training and health services. The goal is to provide a supportive environment to help individuals regain stability and independence.
