Today, Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach issued a statement regarding the implementation of new U.S. tariffs calling them an attack on Canada’s economy that violates long-standing trade agreements.
Bachrach criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision, stating that the tariffs will hurt workers on both sides of the border.
He emphasized the importance of **Canadian unity urging the country to push back using every available tool.
He also expressed concerns about economic risks to communities and Canada’s sovereignty, citing Trump’s past remarks about absorbing Canada into the U.S.
Over the past month, Bachrach has consulted with major employers and industry leaders in Northwest B.C., including
West Fraser, Rio Tinto, the Aluminium Association of Canada, and the Port of Prince Rupert, as well as labor unions such as UNIFOR, USW, and ILWU
He is encouraging residents to support Canadian-made products as a way to strengthen the domestic economy and send a message to U.S. leaders.
