Premier David Eby has issued a statement in response to the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump making it clear that B.C. will not back down.
We didn’t ask for this fight, but we won’t shrink from it, said Eby.
Effective immediately, B.C. Liquor Stores will remove all red-state liquor products from shelves and will no longer reorder them.
Additionally, the provincial government will prioritize Canadian-made products, followed by non-U.S. options, something we don’t usually do due to trade agreements.
Eby added that support will be provided to B.C. businesses to help them pivot to global and domestic markets, ensuring they are not left behind in the face of these tariffs.
The federal government has pledged that revenues from counter tariffs will be redistributed to businesses and individuals for support.
Eby promised that the provincial government will step in to fill any gaps not addressed by Ottawa.
