Tomorrow, Thursday, March 20, the Kitsumkalum First Nation will honor Hereditary Chief Don Roberts with the King’s Medal for his dedication and service to the community. The posthumous award recognizes his contributions to Indigenous communities, shaping a better future for generations. Chief Roberts passed away on September 15, 2024, at the age of 72.
The King’s Medal commemorates the coronation of King Charles III and is awarded to those who have made outstanding contributions to Canada or a specific jurisdiction. The ceremony will also include the swearing-in of the 2025 Kitsumkalum elected Council.
The event will be held at the Kitsumkalum Community Hall, with doors opening at 10:00 AM and the ceremony starting at 10:30 AM. A catered lunch by Kasiks will follow at noon. The public is invited to attend this special occasion.
