NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh addressed Canadians at the Parkdale Food Centre in Ottawa this morning, vowing that an NDP government would step in to tackle rising grocery prices. Singh criticized corporate grocery giants for making billions while families struggle with soaring food costs.
He announced that the NDP would introduce emergency price caps on essential food items like pasta, frozen vegetables, and infant formula, which have seen significant price hikes since 2020. Singh argued that while grocery chains are thriving, everyday Canadians are being squeezed.
Singh also attacked Pierre Poilievre and the Liberals, accusing them of siding with corporate interests over working families. He promised to implement a mandatory Grocery Code of Conduct, empower the Competition Bureau to prevent price-fixing, and tax windfall profits from major retailers like Loblaws and Walmart.
‘The NDP will fight for you, not the billionaires,’ Singh concluded.
