The Gitxaała Nation will hold an election on April 15, to select new leadership for the next three-year term. Members will vote to elect one Chief Councillor, one Deputy Chief Councillor, one Youth Councillor, and four Councillors, in accordance with the Gitxaała Nation Custom Election Code of 2024.
Voting is available online, by mail-in ballot, or in person. Online voting opens April 1 at 8 a.m. and closes April 15 at 8 p.m. Pacific Time. In-person voting takes place on April 15 at two locations: Git Lax M’oon at 1600 Park Avenue in Prince Rupert, and the Band Office Board Room at 11 Ocean Drive in Kitkatla. Both sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Mail-in ballots will be sent to electors living outside Gitxaała Nation Lands or Prince Rupert. Voters may also request a mail-in package from the Chief Electoral Officer.
The final list of candidates includes four nominees for Chief Councillor and three for Deputy Chief. Three are running for Youth Councillor, while five candidates are vying for four available Council positions.
