The Province is making electric heat pumps more affordable for low- and moderate-income households, including renters and those living in multi-unit buildings.
Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, said cost remains a barrier for many people, which is why the government is focusing on funding to make clean energy solutions more accessible to those who need them most.
The CleanBC Energy Savings Program, launched in June 2024, already helps single-family homes install heat pumps. Starting mid-2025, the program will expand to provide rebates for individual suites in multi-unit buildings.
With $50 million each year over the next two years, the program aims to deliver up to 8,300 new heat pump rebates, offering up to $5,500 for a ductless mini-split heat pump.
The Province is also working with BC Hydro and FortisBC to offer heat pump installations for the lowest-income households.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to make energy-efficient heating and cooling solutions more accessible to all British Columbians.
