A heartbreaking chapter in the community of Gitanyow has come to a close.
On November 10, 2024, a search began at Gitanyow Lake for Aiden Waddle, who went missing while kayaking.
For nine days, family members, local volunteers, and professional search crews scoured the area—on land, in the water, and from the air.
Despite their tireless efforts, the search was suspended on November 18 due to worsening weather conditions, with no success in locating Aiden.
But yesterday, April 14, 2025, search efforts resumed. With the help of family, community members, RCMP, and aerial support, Aiden Waddle was found and recovered.
While the discovery brings a sense of closure, it is accompanied by deep sorrow. Aiden will now be able to be laid to rest, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
The Waddle family and the entire community extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who assisted in the search last fall and again this spring—hundreds of people gave their time and support.
As the family grieves this unimaginable loss, they ask for privacy and compassion during this difficult time.
Out of respect, the public is asked not to inquire about the details surrounding Aiden’s recovery.
Please keep the Waddle family in your thoughts and prayers.
