The Rotary Club of Kitimat will officially close its doors at the end of May after 70 years of community service. Founded in 1956, the club has played a key role in organizing events and supporting local causes, such as partnering with the Kitimat Valley Housing Society and advocating for global issues like polio eradication.
However, declining membership and an aging population made it increasingly difficult to sustain operations. Despite efforts to revitalize the club, the number of active members was no longer sufficient to continue its work.
While the club’s formal activities will come to an end, its legacy of service will continue to inspire the Kitimat community. The club’s contributions to both local and international causes have left a lasting impact.
Members and supporters are encouraged to continue their involvement in community service, and although the club is closing, its spirit of “service above self” will remain a part of Kitimat’s fabric for years to come.
