Property owners in Telkwa are facing a 6.67% tax increase for 2025, pending approval of the village’s budget later this month. For the average household, this increase translates to an estimated $114 more per month.
Along with the tax hike, sewer fees will rise by 2%, and water fees are proposed to increase by 6.5%. Water parcel taxes are recommended to be removed, resulting in a total of $26 in water and sewer fee increases.
Director of Finance Rowena Atienza-Paquette confirmed that the village’s council is focused on key strategic priorities. These include continued work on economic development, community management, and asset management, with a particular emphasis on improving water capacity and rehabilitation to support future growth in Telkwa.
A major milestone was the completion of the $2.5M sewer project in late 2024. The village is also collaborating with the Bulkley Valley Youth Sports Foundation on the Multi-Sports Courts Project, funded by grants and community donations. Additionally, Telkwa has secured grant approval for the Hankin Avenue Path Improvement, aimed at enhancing safety and connectivity around the village and Telkwa Elementary School.
