A new resolution from the BC Federation of Labour is calling for the province to provide 15 sick days for all employees.
On January 1st, amid a surge in Covid cases, BC became the first province to legislate 5 days of paid sick leave for workers each year.
But, the Federation says that still isn’t enough, with respiratory illnesses continuing to circulate, and instances of worker burnout increasing.
Their resolution also calls for the elimination of a 90 day employment requirement to access sick days, and for more education supports to destigmatize taking time off when sick.
Last month Ottawa passed legislation giving all federally-regulated workers 10 days of paid sick leave per year.
