A local state of emergency has been declared by the City of Prince Rupert following a series of water main breaks in the community.
Since early Saturday morning, the City has experienced three main breaks accompanied by multiple service breaks.
That, combined with the condition of the City’s water system and a forecast temperature drop, prompted the City to issue the order.
Doing so allows the City to respond to service breaks in real time, and to tap into provincial assistance and finances, if needed.
While the State of Emergency was issued as a precautionary step to avoid future disruptions, it is recommended to keep 4 Litres of water per resident in your household.
City staff are also asking residents to run their taps at a slow drip to prevent freezing, as they respond to shut-off requests.
