A structure fire which claimed the life of a Prince Rupert resident last week has been deemed accidental in nature.
Reports of the blaze on the 600 block of 7th Avenue East initially came in just before 3:00 in the morning last Friday.
Heavy flames had already engulfed roughly half of the second floor by the time Prince Rupert Fire Rescue crews arrived on scene.
Crews were able to extinguish the blaze within 40 minutes of arrival, while simultaneously conducting a search of the home.
While one occupant was able to escape unharmed, a second was pronounced dead at the scene, after being trapped inside the residence.
Exact damage estimates are unavailable at this time, and fire crews do not believe the cause of the fire to be suspicious.
