Three Northern communities are among four selected to host new family connections centres, under a new provincial pilot program.
Each of the pilot centres will open this Spring, and will offer therapy, intervention, and support services to children, youth, and their families.
Services will be tailored to the needs of each individual child, based on input from their families, and will be offered regardless of diagnosis status.
Those could include behavioural supports, physiotherapy, speech therapy, child care and education supports, and much more.
Pilot centres in the north will be operated by the Terrace Child Development Centre Society, the North Coast Community Services Society in Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii, and the Northwest Child Development Centre Society in the Bulkley Valley.
Consultations with parents, First Nations, and experts are continuing as the province looks to develop a better system of supports, co-developed with Indigenous communities.
