After curtailments were put in place in December, Canfor has decided to permanently shut down their pulp line operations in Prince George.
Canfor announced the shutdown yesterday afternoon, stating a lack of economic fibre, and an analysis of it’s operating footprint.
Though the Specialty paper facility within the site will remain active, closing the pulp line will result in a decrease of an annual 280,000 tonnes of market kraft pulp.
Expected to close by the end of the first quarter of the year, the shutdown is estimated to impact around 300 positions across the organization.
The announcement comes following a curtailment on the pulp line back in December, which Canfor says was a result of previous curtailments at their sawmills across BC and Alberta.
