$2.9 million in fresh Federal funding will go towards several energy-efficiency upgrades at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre.
Heat pump and solar panel installation will decrease the Centre’s reliance on natural gas, reducing consumption and emissions.
Upgrades will also see the arena slab and boards replaced with a new slab capable of storing heat for the winter to ensure year-round use.
According to Ottawa, the improvements will reduce the facility’s energy consumption by 27 percent, and green hous gas emissions by 159 tonnes annually.
