Witset First Nation members will soon have access to 26 new affordable housing units, thanks to a combined $6 million from the province and Ottawa.
Operated by the Yikh Lhiw Dinle Housing Society, the three-storey, wood-frame, facility will be located on the Witset reserve.
Units will consist of a combination of studio and two-bedroom homes for elders, individuals and families living on-rserve.
It also features common spaces to facilitate social and community gatherings, and on-site counselling spaces.
Constructed to meet Passive House standards, the building will consume up to 90 percent less energy for heating and cooling than conventional buildings.
Monthly rental rates for the new homes will range from between $375 and $840 per month.
