BC’s Independent Investigations Office has been called in after a man was sent to hospital following an interaction with police in Kitimat last week.
Just before 5:00 in the morning last Friday, RCMP were called to the 200 block of City Centre for reports of a theft from a local business.
Once on scene, officers located a man nearby who was believed to be a suspect, and attempted to speak with him.
According to police, the man then fell down and injured himself while attempting to leave the area.
Emergency Health Services attended the scene and had the man transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Now, the IIO has launched an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions played in the man’s injury.
Anyone with relevant information can contact the IIO at 1 855 446 8477.
