Two northcoast communities are setting aside their differences and joining forces to support their shared interests.
Officials from the City of Prince Rupert and District of Port Edward have committed to collaboration through a new Shared Prosperity Agreement.
Under the agreement, the pair will tackle regional interests such as housing, worker recruitment and retention, land-use planning, highway considerations, and more.
It includes commitments to provide long-term mutual aid for fire services, and to continue to maintain the water supply to Watson Island.
Moving forward, a spot on the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s Board of Directors will be jointly determined by the pair.
In addition, the agreement lays out parameters for negotiating a Shared Service Agreement between the two communities.
