British Columbia has officially become the first province in Canada to give all residents free access to prescription contraceptives.
As of April 1st, BC PharmaCare will cover the costs of more than 60 commonly used birth-control methods.
Residents will be able to get prescriptions from doctors, hospitals, nurse practitioners or mid-wives at walk-in clinics, and more.
Those prescriptions can then be filled at any local pharmacy, and BC PharmaCare will reimburse them.
Beginning this Spring, residents will also be able to get prescriptions directly from their local pharmacist.
