A new Parliamentary report has brought forward 21 recommendations to strengthen air passenger protections for Canadians.
Those recommendations mirror many suggested in a Private Members Bill tabled by Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach last month.
In the new report, the Standing Committee on Transportation suggests a review of what disruption factors are considered under an airline’s control.
Under Bachrach’s Bill, airlines would only be able to avoid paying compensation if a flight is canceled or delayed due to extraordinary circumstances.
Other recommendations in the report echo the Bill’s calls to have compensation paid out automatically, and to shift the burden of proving cancellation factors to airlines.
They also call for stricter regulations, more efficient processes, quicker reporting of delays, and more.
