Ottawa is providing fresh funding to support the victims and families of all missing and murdered Indigenous peoples, including men and boys.
A total of $95.8 million will be invested into additional support services over the next 5 years, plus $20.4 million in annual funding.
Just over $37 million of that, plus $7.75 million annually, will help to keep Family Information Liason Units available to families.
Funding for the units, which help families find information on missing loved ones, had been set to expire this year.
$20 million, and $4.15 in annual funds, will help improve access to Indigenous-led, community-based healing supports.
And $38.6 million, plus $8.45 million annually, will go towards improving Indigenous-led victims services and supports.
Indigenous people in Canada are more than six times as likely to be murdered, and more than twice as likely to be victims of violent crimes, compared to non-Indigenous residents.
