Telus and the Nisga’a Lisims Government are teaming up to bring wireless internet services to more than 800 residents in the Nass Valley.
Residents of Gingolx, Laxgalts’ap, New Aiyansh and Gitwinksihlkw will soon have access to high-speed connectivity via the Nation’s own network.
That will come via six macrocell and three small cell towers built by Telus on the Nation’s land, through a first-of-its-kind partnership.
Construction of the towers is expected to be completed next year, at a total price tag of $8.8 million.
Roughly $4.3 million of that comes from the NLG, while the remainder of the funding comes from Ottawa’s Universal Broadband Fund.
Telus will work with the Nation to provide technical skills training for Nisga’a members to maintain the new infrastructure once it is completed.
