Construction has finally begun on a long-awaited, Indigenous-led, healing and treatment centre at Tachick Lake, just south of Vanderhoof.
Located along the Lake itself, just west of the Saik’uz First Nation, the centre will be operated by Carrier Sekani Family Services.
Once completed, the facility will offer both a 10-bed medical detox program, and a 36-bed residential treatment program, available year-round.
Their programs combine both Western and traditional treatment methods, built off of the concept of land-based healing.
In line with that, the site will also include greenhouses, smokehouses, gardens, an outdoor kitchen and workshop areas for on the land activities.
Work on the $40 million facility is expected to wrap-up in winter of 2025, with funding coming from Canada, BC, and the First Nations Health Authority.
