A trio of new stamps from Canada Post are honouring the life and work of three Indigenous leaders.
Started in 2022, the three are part of a multi-year Indigenous Leaders stamp series which has already featured the likes of Indigenous veteran Sergeant Tommy Prince.
The first to be unveiled this year features Nellie Cournoyea, the first indigenous woman to lead a provincial or territorial government as Premier of the Northwest Territories.
Today’s addition features George Manuel an author and political strategist from the Neskonlith Band of the Secwepemc nation.
Manuel is often credited for inspiring the modern Indigenous movement and served as National Chief for what’s now the Assembly of First Nations.
Nominated for three Nobel Peace Prizes, Manuel is also known for being the co-founder of the Centre for World Indigenous Studies.
Another stamp will be revealed tomorrow featuring Thelma Chalifoux, and all three will be available on June 21, marking National Indigenous People’s Day.
