Fire danger ratings have been set to extreme for the southern portion of the Northwest Fire Centre, including Terrace, Smithers, and Houston.
Extreme danger ratings continue west from there to the border, covering nearly the entirety of the Prince George Fire Centre.
That comes as forecasted rain looks to help crews battling the West Kiskatinaw River fire, which prompted the evacuation of Tumbler Ridge.
Currently covering just over 19,000 hectares, that blaze is inching ever closer to the 3,200 hectare Peavine Creek fire at the Alberta border.
While rain may help crews battling that blaze, drought conditions and predicted heavy winds won’t help those fighting fires further north.
Evacuation orders remain in place for the 488,000 hectare Donnie Creek fire in the remote Tommy Lakes area of the North Peace.
Further north, near the border with the Northwest Territories, the 3,300 hectare Ittsi Creek fire is also prompting evacuation orders.
Meanwhile, a new fire which sprouted up just across the river from Hazelton yesterday evening is listed as out of control, with no other information.
All open burning and campfires remain banned across the province.
