Four of the ten stop work orders which had been in place along Coastal GasLink’s pipeline route have now been lifted.
Each of the orders were issued by the Environmental Assessment Office due to failures to adequately control erosion and sediment in those areas.
In the east, the orders had covered the 89 to 90 kilometre point just south of Chetwynd, and the 128 to 130 kilometre point west of Tumbler Ridge.
Heading west, the third order had been in place for an 11 kilometre stretch southwest of Houston in the contentious Morice River Watershed.
Even further west from there, the final lifted order had covered 8 kilometres in the Clore River Watershed, east of Kitimat.
Decisions to lift the orders came after follow-up inspections which found that CGL activities at the sites were back within compliance.
However, six stop work orders remain in place along the route, plus three additional site-specific orders to remedy non-compliance.
CGL says that the issues are owing to a rapid spring melt and difficult mountainous terrain.
They say they have over 700 workers actively focusing on monitoring and implementing sediment and erosion control measures.
