Residents of the Prince George area can expect a couple days of National Indigenous People’s Day celebrations next week.
To kick things off, school districts 57 and 28 will be joining forces to celebrate the acceptance of the Dakelh Ghunek language curriculum.
Celebrations start at 10:30 am on June 9 at Hixon Elementary School and will end with a barbeque lunch at 1 pm.
Following that will be the Dune Lhuhuweẕdel, Indigenous Peoples’ Gathering from June 21-23.
That event stems from a partnership between the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, the 2 Rivers Remix Moving Feast, Northern Indigenous Arts Council, and the Omineca Artist Run Centre Society.
Both June 21 and 22 will see live entertainment, cultural activities, workshops and vendors from 11 am to 8 pm at the Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.
The three day affair will end with workshops, an open mic, and a reception for the Indigenous Art Group Exhibition from 12 pm to midnight at the Omineca Arts Centre.
Meanwhile the exhibition is open now until June 30.
All events are free, and anyone who wishes to participate from home can live stream the first 2 days at www.nipg.2rmx.ca.
