Contamination related to historic mine tailings have prompted a Health Hazard Advisory for a pair of beaches in the District of Wells.
Northern Health is advising residents to avoid sandy sections and wading areas at the Jack of Clubs Tailings Beach and Visitor Centre Beach.
Mine tailings can contain arsenic, lead, or other metals which can be harmful to humans if touched, injested, or disturbed.
As a result, the advisory will remain in place until a detailed assessment has been conducted and hazard control measures set up.
Until then, residents can access the lake at points outside of the advisory area.
