Major milestones could be on the horizon for a pair of First Nations-led LNG projects in the Northwest.
According to the First Nations LNG Alliance, all signs are pointing to a final investment decision for the Haisla-owned Cedar LNG project this fall.
If a final cost estimate, expected later this summer, turns out favourable, the project could be fully green-lit by the end of September.
That would clear the way for the facility to begin shipping LNG in 2028, making Cedar the world’s first Indigenous-owned LNG-export facility.
But it must still pass an, as of yet, undefined government emissions test with a plan to be net-zero by 2030.
That won’t be an issue for the Nisga’a-led Ksi Lsims LNG project, however, which has promised to meet net-zero goals from the beginning.
It is currently in the early stages of its Environmental Assessment Process, with details on how that process will look expected in the coming months.
