A new fully-equipped gas station and commercial centre will soon serve drivers along Highway 20, courtesy of the Ulkatcho First Nation.
Members of the Nation held a ground breaking ceremony yesterday to launch the construction of the new Ulkatcho Mercantile Store and Gas Station.
Located on their reserve near Anahim Lake, the project is being led by the Nation, with the intent to create jobs and promote revenue growth.
It will feature a commercial building with separate gas and diesel dispensing areas, storage, rest areas for cars and semis, and charging stations.
In total, the Nation contributed $1.4 million toward the project, through West Chilcotin Forest Products, which is wholly-owned by the Nation.
Another $1 million came from the Federal Government’s Community Opportunity Readiness Program.
