A council which advises the Province on how best to support the well-being of Indigenous women is getting a bit bigger.
Indigenous Relations Minister Murray Rankin has added Kristy Joe and Lauren Peterson to the Minister’s Advisory Council on Indigenous Women.
Created in 2011, the Council provides guidance and direction for the Minister from an Indigenous perspective, shaped by their experiences.
Kristy Joe is a Dakelh woman from the Tl’azt’en Nation who has authored two best-selling books in her Woman of Worth series.
Lauren Peterson is a two-spirit member of the Métis Nation of BC who is currently serving as their manager of K-12 education.
They join a now nine-member council chaired by Barb Ward-Burkitt from the Fort McKay First Nation.
