Today marks the beginning of the 5th annual Tears to Hope Relay Race in the Northwest, with multiple routes available for runners this weekend.
It aims to bring awareness to the on-going national crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, and gender-diverse people.
Participants will have four routes available this year: the Prince Rupert, Smithers, Nass Valley, and Kitamaat Village routes.
Only the three-day Smithers route to Terrace gets going today, with runners gathering for the first leg at Babine Lake Road at 4:00.
Tomorrow will kick off the Prince Rupert and Nass Valley routes, with the Kitamaat Village route starting on Sunday, and all ending in Terrace.
It comes one week after relays held across the country helped to raise funds for a healing centre right here in Northern BC.
