NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is calling on Ottawa to fund the search of a Manitoba landfill where two Indigenous women are believed to be buried.
Rebecca Contois, Morgan Harris, and Marcedes Myran are all believed to have been murdered by alleged serial killer Jeremy Skibicki.
But, while Contois remains were found in Winnipeg’s Brady Road Landfill last May, the bodies of the other two women have not been found.
Police believe that they may have been deposited in the nearby Prairie Green Landfill, but a search was deemed too expensive by the Province.
While the Federal Government fronted the bill for a feasibility study into a search of the landfill, they say the search is out of their jurisdiction.
Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller chastised the Manitoba government for making it a jurisdictional battle.
Now, Singh has joined the chorus of First Nations leaders and activists in calling for the Federal Liberals to step in and fund the search.
