Failures to install fencing to prevent human-wildlife conflicts have earned a non-compliance notice for the Brucejack Gold Mine.
In 2019, the Environmental Assessment Office ordered project-owner Pretivm Resources to install electric fencing around the site’s Knipple Camp.
During an inspection in mid-June, Conservation Service Officers observed an adult grizzly bear on site accessing food waste in an unfenced area.
They reported the discovery to the EAO, who issued a non-compliance notice and ordered them to install adequate fences by July 10th.
A follow up inspection will be conducted at the site next Wednesday, with fines under consideration if the issue is not remedied.
