Delegates from more than 85 countries gathered in Vancouver last week for the world’s biggest conference on liquefied natural gas.
They highlighted Indigenous-led projects such as the Haisla Nation’s Cedar LNG project, and the Nisga’a owned Ksi Lisims LNG.
But it’s not a view that’s shared by all, as evidenced by the on-going disputes over the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
From the beginning, the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs have been opposed to the project, despite all Elected Councils along the route signing off.
Other discussions at the conference centred around the need to stop focusing solely on GHG emissions, but also considering affordability and resiliency.
