A new complaint has been lodged against the RCMPs Community Industry Response group in light of its investigation.
Started back in March, the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission launched a systemic investigation of the force.
Now the BC Civil Liberties Association has accused the C-IRG of illegally stopping people from accessing an injunction order area.
That order was granted to prevent people from interfering with Teal Cedar’s logging activities on Vancouver Island.
However, the order stated that they could not prevent peaceful protesting, and could not stop people from accessing the injunction area.
Despite that, a member of the association claims to have encountered a C-IRG checkpoint which did just that.
They also say an RCMP lawyer stated it was for the benefit of Teal Cedar.
Created in 2017, the C-IRG is tasked with addressing crime and keeping public order in incidents relating to energy projects.
They’ve since been accused of excessive force, racism, and Indigenous rights violations prompting the investigation.
That’s one of at least three injunction orders being reviewed by the CRCC which includes the Coastal GasLink Injunction on Wet’suwet’en Territory,
