Police in Kitimat are reminding residents of the on-going open fire ban, after catching two residents maintaining backyard fires.
With more than 400 active wildfires and most of BC experiencing drought conditions, open burning has been banned province-wide for weeks.
That includes all open pile burns, stubble or grass fires, campfires, fireworks, fire pits, tiki torches, and more.
Residents caught in violation of the ban can face fines of up to $1,150 for a first offense.
If you see someone irresponsibly starting a fire in the District, contact the RCMP at 250 632 7111.
