Members of the Nisga’a house of Ni’isjoohl held a ceremony today in Scotland to prepare their totem pole for its journey home.
That comes after a delegation visited the Scottish Museum last year to discuss returning the pole.
Since 1930, the pole has been on display after being stolen by an anthropologist and sold to the museum.
It was originally commissioned to memorialize the warrior Ts’awit who died in battle.
Now, the pole will begin its journey home, ending with a welcoming ceremony and feast held by the Nisga’a Nation at the end of September.
