That figure comes from the BC Search and Rescue Associations first ever annual year in review report, released today.
In total, more than 3,400 skilled and well-trained volunteers responded to a combined 1,510 incidents last year.
As a result, crews were able to rescue 1,758 individuals, saving a total of 1,019 lives while responding to rescue calls.
BC has 78 active GSAR groups, who often face significant challenges due to the province’s mountainous and forested terrain.
In addition to data, the report also offers incredible stories from the field, tips for those planning an adventure, and more.
