A fire in Atlin from yesterday afternoon has completely leveled a historic hotel which had dated back to the community’s roots.
It didn’t take long for the flames to fully engulf the long-abandoned building, which after a century of existence was gone in under an hour.
Crews were able to extinguish the flames around the rubble that remained, but no cause has been identified as of yet.
It’s the fifth structure fire in the community this year, which included a blaze that claimed their iconic general store nearly a year ago.
That store had also housed Atlin’s only post office, and has led to difficulties ensuring postal service in the months since.
