Canfor is investing $200 million into a new state-of-the-art wood manufacturing facility in Houston.
In January, Canfor had announced plans to build a new facility at the site of their existing Houston Sawmill, alongside a temporary closure.
But in July, following the completion of planning and technical work, the company decided to postpone a final investment decision in the project.
That delay had come amid an on-going shortage in the availability of economic wood fibre in the region.
Canfor now says they have a plan in place to acquire the fibre necessary to support a successful investment.
Engineering and permitting work will begin immediately, with demolition of the old mill and site preparation planned for the spring.
In total, the work to plan and build the new manufacturing plant is expected to take between 28 and 32 months, subject to contractor availability.
