Members of the Wildfire Service and Tŝilhqot’in Nation came together today to celebrate the closure of a lodge which had housed fire crews.
Last month, the Tŝilhqot’in Rustic Group Lodging site opened up to host Nation members, and those from other Nations displaced by wildfires.
With the intent of providing a safe space during evacuations, the site has capacity for up to 100 occupants in family-sized tents, plus additional RV sites when needed.
But, it was this flexible model that also made it the perfect site to host wildfire crews as they continued to battle blazes nearby.
According to the Wildfire Service, the site provided critical logistical support as well as meals and accommodations to support their long hours.
Both parties extended appreciation to the other last Friday as they celebrated the closure of the site for the season.
