Continued failures to control sediment and erosion along their pipeline route have earned Coastal GasLink yet another fine.
Between April and May of last year, the Environmental Assessment Office handed CGL a number of stop-work orders along the 670 km route.
While each of those orders have since been lifted, the EAO has now decided to issue a $340,000 fine for the same issues.
As if that wasn’t enough, they have also tacked on an extra $6,000 fine for providing false or misleading information on maintenance records.
CGL says they took immediate action to remedy the issues at the time of the initial inspections, and that they came before a new compliance agreement signed last July.
They also say that the second fine was a regretable error prompted by a contractor record discrepency.
Since last February, CGL has been issued four fines for sediment and erosion control challenges, now totalling over $800,000.
