It may not be the news most want to hear, but winter is on the way, and with it comes winter tire requirements for BC roads.
For the majority of highways in the North, that means drivers will need to equip suitable winter tires between October 1st and April 30th.
Winter tires are designated by a mountain symbol with a snowflake inside or the M+S stamp on the sidewall of the tire.
Heavy vehicles such as transport trucks, semis and busses also require tire chains to be carried or equipped through the same time.
On Highway 16 west of Terrace, Highway 37 between Kitimat and Terrace, and on the Nisga’a Highway, winter tires are only required through March 31st.
