A mining project which has drawn the opposition of the Tahltan Central Government has not done the same from the Ministry of Forests.
It covers a 5,000 hectare area which the Nation considers to be sacred land on which many of their ancestors have been buried.
But, despite a communications agreement signed in 2021, and frequent requests to cease activities on the land, the Nation says there have been no meaningful discussions with Doubleview.
Today, the Archaeology Branch of the Ministry of Forests determined that no additional archaeological work is needed in the permit area.
That decision will allow for further exploratory drilling and exploration work to be conducted within the proposed development areas.
Doubleview does say that they will cease all work and report any archaeological findings to the Branch should they come across anything.
