A new mining policy has been released by the Tŝilhqot’in National Government which will guide responsible activities on their territory.
In doing so, the Nation is reaffirming their jurisdiction over mineral resources on their territory, and protecting the land for generations to come.
It outlines numerous actions to reduce negative impacts, improve communication and consultation, build relationships, and clarify decision making.
But, it will also ensure Tŝilhqot’in values are followed and respected, and the meangingful participation of the Nation in exploration activities.
While the document was just released, the policies have been in place since 2014, when they underwent extensive public consultation.
